This article is for total beginners, explaining in plain language what the Day Pillar is, how to find it, and what it reveals.
日柱是什么？What Is the Day Pillar?
你的八字由四柱组成：年柱、月柱、日柱、时柱。每柱两个字：一个天干，一个地支。四柱八字的得名就是这么来的。Your Bazi consists of four pillars: Year Pillar, Month Pillar, Day Pillar, and Hour Pillar. Each pillar has two characters: one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch. That is why it is called "Four Pillars, Eight Characters" (Ba Zi).
日柱就是你出生那一天的天干 + 地支。The Day Pillar is the Heavenly Stem + Earthly Branch of the day you were born.它在四柱里排第三位，是八字的核心。It sits in the third position among the four pillars and is the core of Bazi.
举个例子：假如你 1994 年 6 月 1 日出生，查万年历，这一天是"戊午日"，那你的日柱就是"戊午"。戊是天干（叫日干或日主），午是地支（叫日支，也叫夫妻宫）。Example: If you were born on June 1, 1994, checking the Chinese calendar shows this day is "Wu Wu Day" — so your Day Pillar is "Wu Wu." Wu is the Heavenly Stem (called Day Stem or Day Master), and Wu is the Earthly Branch (called Day Branch, also known as the Spouse Palace).

怎么查自己的日柱？How to Find Your Day Pillar
三个方法，从简单到复杂：Three methods, from easiest to hardest:
用万年历查（最简单）Use a Chinese Calendar (Easiest)
网上搜索"万年历"，输入你出生的公历日期，那天对应的干支就是你的日柱。比如 1990 年 5 月 20 日 → "乙酉日"，日柱就是乙酉。Search online for "Chinese calendar" and enter your Gregorian birth date. The Stem-Branch pair for that day is your Day Pillar. E.g. May 20, 1990 is "Yi You Day," so your Day Pillar is Yi You.
注意：如果出生在晚上 11 点之后，日柱应该算第二天的干支。晚上 11 点之后是子时的开始，按命理算法是新的一天。Note: If born after 11 PM, the Day Pillar should use the next day's Stem-Branch. After 11 PM is the start of Zi hour, which counts as a new day in Bazi calculation.

网上有日柱计算公式，基于公历日期的儒略日数换算。需要加减乘除取模运算，容易出错，不推荐新手尝试。用工具就行。There are online formulas for calculating the Day Pillar based on Gregorian-to-Julian date conversion. It requires addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and modular arithmetic — easy to make mistakes. Not recommended for beginners. Just use a tool.
日柱能看到什么信息？What Information Can the Day Pillar Reveal?
单凭日柱两个字，已经能看到不少东西：Just from those two characters of the Day Pillar, you can already see quite a bit:
日干的五行Day Stem's Five Element——你的先天属性。比如甲木人天生有领导的潜质（木主仁，直而高），丙火人热情有感染力（火主礼，外向张扬），庚金人重原则讲规矩（金主义，刚硬果断）。— your innate nature. For example, Jia Wood people are born with leadership potential (Wood governs benevolence — upright and elevated); Bing Fire people are warm and infectious (Fire governs propriety — outgoing and expressive); Geng Metal people value principles and rules (Metal governs righteousness — firm and decisive).
日支的五行Day Branch's Five Element——你找的另一半大概是什么气质。木支（寅卯）的人偏瘦高，火支（巳午）的人气色好性格火，金支（申酉）的人白而有形，水支（亥子）的人灵活圆润。— the general temperament of the partner you will attract. Wood Branches (Yin, Mao) tend toward tall and slim; Fire Branches (Si, Wu) tend to have good complexion and fiery personality; Metal Branches (Shen, You) tend to be fair and well-proportioned; Water Branches (Hai, Zi) tend to be flexible and well-rounded.
干支生克关系Stem-Branch Generating/Controlling Relationship——你和另一半怎么相处。天干生地支（比如甲午，木生火）→ 夫妻关系比较和谐，你对配偶有付出；干支比和（比如丙午，同属火）→ 像铁哥们，好的时候很好，吵的时候很凶；干支相克（比如庚午，火克金）→ 需要磨合，但也可能互补。— how you interact with your partner. Stem generates Branch (e.g., Jia Wu — Wood generates Fire): marital harmony, you give to your spouse. Stem and Branch are same element (e.g., Bing Wu — both Fire): like close buddies; great when good, fierce when quarreling. Stem and Branch clash (e.g., Geng Wu — Fire controls Metal): needs adjustment, but can also be complementary.
日柱与流年互动Day Pillar and Annual Luck Interaction——比如 2026 丙午年，日柱是庚子的人，天干丙火克庚金（七杀压身），地支子午正冲（夫妻宫被冲）——这种组合叫"双杀"，今年的变动和压力都会特别大。— for example, in 2026 Bing Wu year, someone with a Geng Zi Day Pillar: the Heavenly Stem Bing Fire controls Geng Metal (Qi Sha pressing down), and the Earthly Branches Zi and Wu directly clash (Spouse Palace under attack). This combo is called "Double Kill" — expect major changes and pressure this year.
单看日柱的局限性Limitations of Reading Only the Day Pillar
日柱是八字的核心，但不是全部。就像一个人长什么样不能只看鼻子——完整的八字分析要四柱合参，看五行旺衰、格局高低、大运流转。The Day Pillar is the core of Bazi, but not the whole picture. Just like you cannot judge someone's appearance by only looking at their nose — complete Bazi analysis requires examining all four pillars together: Five Element strength and weakness, Structure quality, and Luck Cycle transitions.
但如果你只是想对自己的命盘有一个快速了解，先搞清楚日柱是第一步，也是最重要的一步。知道自己的日柱，你就知道自己是甲木人还是丙火人、知道自己的夫妻宫在哪、知道今年流年跟自己核心的互动是什么——这些已经比 90% 的人了解得多。But if you just want a quick overview of your destiny chart, figuring out your Day Pillar is the first and most important step. Knowing your Day Pillar tells you whether you are a Jia Wood or Bing Fire person, where your Spouse Palace sits, and how this year's energy interacts with your core self — that is already more than what 90% of people know.
